Research has shown relation between blood cholesterol and incidence of impotence in men. It is shown that men who have lower blood cholesterol are less likely to develop erective dysfunction. Higher amounts of HDL or high density lipoprotein are also indicative to help in prevention of impotence.
Atherosclerosis which results in hardening of the arteries can obstruct the blood blow to and from the penis. This is, of course, the primary cause of impotence.
